A native of San Rafael, California, in the San Francisco Bay Area, Mike Rice came to Clear Channel Colorado and the Rockies Radio Network in 2002. Each week during baseball season, he hosts the weekly "Rockies Dugout Show" on the Rockies Radio Network flagship station, 850 KOA in Denver. In addition, he fills in calling play-by-play on Rockies broadcasts.
Rice is also 850 KOA's Assistant Sports Director and he is involved in a variety of the station's sports coverage.
He is the studio host for the Denver Broncos Radio Network and hosts the post-game Broncos talk show "The Gridiron Grill," calls the play-by-play for the University of Colorado women’s basketball games and serves as a sports anchor and reporter. He also fills in as a co-host on "Colorado's Morning News" and "The Dave Logan Show."
Prior to his time at 850 KOA, Rice spent 11 years at KFKA Radio in Greeley, Colorado and called the play-by-play for University of Northern Colorado athletics. He was at the mic when the Bears won national championships in football in 1996 and 1997.
Rice has covered sports in Colorado for over 20 years. He is a lifelong sports fan whose favorite sport is whatever one is in season. Covering the 2007 World Series and calling the Bears’ football championships are among his fondest broadcasting memories.
Rice enjoys exploring Colorado and the Rocky Mountain West and always has his camera at the ready. He, his wife Anne, and sons EJ and Will reside in the Denver area.
